Singer/Songwriter and Long Beach native, Susan J. Paul, will make a special appearance at the GoGirlsMusicFest, October 20 at the Liquid Lounge. But Paul brings a unique gift to this event. Paul will not only bring her soulful voice to this special cause, but will join those that she is fighting for. Paul is currently battling ovarian cancer. Two years ago, Paul was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, immediately underwent surgery and chemotherapy, and now her doctor has brought her the news that her struggle with the big “C” is back. And so, Paul turns to what she does best…sing. In fact, following her initial diagnosis, Paul produced her fourth album, Big Love, about her triumphant journey through cancer. Matt Coker (OC Weekly) describes Paul’s work as “Big Love finds a more mature and confident Paul as spiritual and inspiring as ever…her voice is pushed out front as she sings about accepting what comes your way, learning from it and moving on.”
Big Love, was released right on the heels of the popular album We Will Remember, (GIA Publications), an exciting collection of contemporary inspirational music. Paul speaks of her work on We Will Remember… “My songs have always been about my journey, my unraveling. I try to keep them as honest as possible, holding the truth in the twists and turns of words and imagery, gently hanging them on melodies that move me. Every song feels like the first... mystery and all." The title track We Will Remember was commissioned as the theme song for the 2002 Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, following the popularity of “River of Hope”(off the We Will Remember album) at the 2001 Congress.
We Will Remember is the third musical venture for Paul and brings forth the same enthusiastic spirit as her previous recordings, Human Factor (Vantage Records) and Naked Heart (Sugarbone Records).
Susan’s music is an eclectic mix and style and ideas, exploring the groove and the glorious, always leaving you wanting more. It a “journey to the heart of life”.
